About

The Studio

Arbol Wood Studio was born with the idea of sharing the passion for woodworking by creating hand made crafts and wood products and making them available for purchase (pickup at the studio or through seasonal craft fairs).

The Studio is located in SW Calgary, Alberta, just footsteps away from the beautiful Canadian Rockies.

Whether you want to surprise a loved one with a unique gift or just treat yourself, Arbol is here for you. Feel free to browse the Collections section and create a Wish List. You can then contact us via email and arrange the purchase of your items and schedule a pickup at the Studio. The Portfolio section contains pictures of Arbol Wood Studio's journey into woodworking. Hopefully you will enjoy those past projects and if you like them, feel free to create your own versions.

Gaston was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since his early days, he has shown interest in crafts and woodworking. His first experiences take him back to his childhood where he spent time in his grandfather's workshop, after taking pieces of driftwood from the garden and re-shaping them with an old electric grinder (no safety googles at that time, lol!). As he lived most of his life in Argentina in an apartment building, the opportunity to explore craftsmanship was limited.

Gaston’s journey into self-taught artistry began one Saturday morning in 2004. Gaston, who by this time was already living in Canada, experienced a breakthrough while watching an episode of "The New Yankee Workshop" on PBS. That was the definitive wake-up call as he was absolutely enchanted by the show and the presentation skills of its host Norm Abraham. Since then, he watched every single episode of the program and started to follow some others that were also on TV.

The Artist

By 2006 Gaston was able to finally establish his first workshop in his detached garage. Since then, he has applied his diverse range of skills to hundreds of creative projects and home improvements. Gaston has created most of the furniture for his own house, gifts for friends and family, outdoor projects like custom made gates, fences, decks, and planters, and even “Little Free Libraries” for the communities of Somerset and Canyon Meadows in SW Calgary.

Gaston enjoys the creative process in general, favouring the combination of polished wood and driftwood in order to design unique pieces that cannot be reproduced. Often, he creates functional opportunities within these projects to create delicate tealight or plant holders.
